She’s been married twice, and the story of how she met her current husband, Frederick Thiébaud, would make an excellent country song.

She married her first husband, Mutt Lange, in 1993

Shania’s first husband, Robert John “Mutt” Lange, is 74 years old. He is a music composer and producer from Zambia who has worked with various artists such as Mariah Carey.

Mutt approached Shania after hearing songs from her debut album in 1993, and the couple met. According to The Daily Mail UK, Shania’s career exploded once the two began working together.

Six months after meeting, their connection became amorous, and the pair married in December 1993.

Shania and Mutt have a son together.

Shania and Mutt had their only son, Eja, in 2001, which is pronounced “Asia.” He has reached the age of 21.

Shania thought her career was ended when her voice chords began to weaken owing to a dysphonia diagnosis in 2003, so she devoted her time to raising Eja in Switzerland.

Mutt cheated on Shania with her best friend and assistant.

Shania and Mutt were married for 14 years until they divorced. Mutt cheated on her with Marie-Anne Thiébaud, her assistant and best friend at the time. According to PEOPLE, the two divorced in 2008.

Shania was also living a somewhat secluded existence at the time, battling damaged vocal chords and Lyme disease.

Shania had suspicions Mutt was cheating on her (which Marie-Anne confirmed-yikes!), she discovered of the romance from Frédéric Thiébaud, who was married to Marie-Anne at the time.

Shania spoke with PEOPLE about her pain and divorce from her first spouse. “When I lost Mutt…it was similar to losing my parents,” she remarked, referring to an automobile accident that killed both of her parents in 1987. “It was like death.”

She was afraid she would never recover or “crawl out of this hole.” But she did. And her vocal cords, like her heart, healed.

Shania married Frédéric Thiébaud in 2011.

Frédéric, Shania’s new best buddy, is a 53-year-old businessman from Switzerland.

Shania frequently mentioned how Frédéric helped her get over the difficult period following her divorce from Mutt. They finally became good friends before beginning to date in 2009.

Shaina married Frédéric Thiébaud in 2011 after becoming engaged in 2010.

As Shania’s cap proclaims, she is truly iconic.

Fred and Marie-Anne have a daughter together.

Fred’s daughter and Shania’s stepdaughter is Johanna Thiebaud. Her Instagram bio states that she is 21 years old.

Shania, Fred, Eja, and Johanna have become close over the years, and they’ve travelled as a family on numerous occasions. Their travels have taken them to Tokyo, Japan, and Shania’s own lakefront house in Canada.

Shania has previously stated that their (very) comparable situations occurring at the same time helped them understand and encourage each other more than anyone else.

This love story has the potential to inspire at least 1000 country songs. I’m hoping there will be at least a few on Queen of Me, but whatever Shania comes up with will be wonderful in any case.
