Interesting Facts About the VMAs

There are some interesting facts that are hidden from the public eye, but due to the fact that this award has a long history some of the insights got out. Let’s see some of the most shocking ones.

Tickets Are Very Expensive

MTV charges up to $800 per ticket, including nominees. Josh Forbes, who directed the music video for “Walk the Moon,” nominated for Best Rock Video in 2017, had to start a GoFundMe just to afford to attend the ceremony.

Moonman Statues in 1984

The first-ever MTV VMAs aired live on September 14, 1984. Dan Aykroyd and Bette Midler hosted the ceremony, and they wore astronaut suits designed to look like the “moonman” award statues.

Madonna and the Live Tiger

Madonna originally planned to sing “Like a Virgin” to a real-life white Bengal tiger during her 1984 performance. Although the idea was scrapped for safety reasons, she still gave an iconic performance, emerging from a 17-foot-tall wedding cake in that unforgettable lace bustier wedding dress.

Ringtone of the Year

The best ringtone of the year was a serious thing. It was only given out in 2006, so Fort Minor is the only lucky winner in history.
