After a dispute with another Tanzania side known as the Tanzania Giants in 1936, the Dar Young Africans founded a new club and quickly renamed themselves the Queens in honour of the British monarchy. Originally known as the Queens, the club later changed its name to the Eagles, and is now just called Sunderland. In 1971, they switched to the name Simba. (Lion in Swahili)
With 21 league titles and 5 domestic cup victories to their name, Simba SC has been a regular fixture in the CAF Champions League. They’re also up there with the best clubs in East Africa because to their six CECAFA Club Championship triumphs.

The Benjamin Mkapa Stadium serves as the home field for Simba. In 2022, Simba’s Instagram account reached 1.9 million followers, making it the fastest-growing football club account on Instagram. This growth of 89% occurred within a single year.
The overall budget for the upcoming 2019-2020 season has been announced, and it comes in at Sh 6.1 Billion (about $5.3 million).

The Young Africans Sports Club, or simply Yanga, is a Tanzanian football club based in the Jangwani district of Dar es Salaam. In 1935, when the club was established, the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium was built to serve as the venue for their home games.
Known as “Yanga” (Young Boys), this team has competed in the CAF Champions League on numerous occasions and has won 28 league titles. The CECAFA Club Championship has been won by them five times.
The Past of Yanga-Sc
Although the club’s history can be traced back to the 1910s, it wasn’t until 1935 that the Dar es Salaam inhabitants who were considered African by the colonial authorities in Tanganyika officially formed a football club in order to play in a league dominated by “non-African” football clubs. Reportedly, the club’s initials stand for “New Young.” There was a rebranding from Dar es Salaam Young Africans SC to Young Africans Sports Club.

After forming in 1935, the squad’s members fought amongst themselves about the team’s lacklustre output. The team’s poor showing in 1936 led to the departure of some members who formed a new team. The Arabs who sowed strife among club members and ultimately led to a breakup were the ones who advocated for separation. They founded Queens F.C. with other radicals (currently Simba). Competition between Young Africans and Simba has existed ever since.

In 2020, Yanga will serve La Liga in a consultancy capacity under the terms of a contract.
On May 27th, club members opted to change the organization’s governing structure to allow private investments from other businesses.
The organisation eventually became a symbol of resistance to colonial rule. The political group TANU chose the colours yellow and green because of the positive connotation that it has with young Africans and the idea that they are natural patriots and freedom fighters. Presently, the club is undergoing a process that will keep investors in control of 49% of the club while members retain 51%.
The team’s long-standing rivalry with Simba stems from their participation in the Dar es Salaam (or Kariakoo) derby. The match-up was ranked #5 on the list of the most famous African derbies.
