Kenya National Anthem in English – O God, our strength -The national anthem of Kenya is referred to as “Ee Mungu Nguvu Yetu,” which translates to “O God of all Creation.” Its literal translation is “O God, our strength.”

RELATED: Wimbo wa Taifa – Mungu ibariki Tanzania (Tanzania National Anthem)

The song “Ee Mungu Nguvu Yetu” was first composed with the lyrics written in Kiswahili, which is the official language of Kenya. The commission was comprised of five members, with the Kenya Music Adviser serving as its chairperson. It was based on an old melody that Pokomo women used to sing to their children when they were little.

It is remarkable for being one of the first national anthems to be officially commissioned as such, making it one of the earliest anthems in history to achieve that distinction. After Kenya gained its independence from the United Kingdom in 1963, the Kenyan Song Commission was tasked with writing a new national anthem to commemorate the occasion. It was anticipated that the lyrics would convey the most profound beliefs and loftiest goals held by the general populace as a whole.

QUOTABLE LYRICS
