In the song, Shakur discusses the hardships he faced as a child, including his mother’s crack cocaine addiction; yet, he contends that his love and profound respect for his mother trump any negative recollections of his childhood.

Afeni Shakur, Tupac Shakur’s mother, is honored in this song as a memorial. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, she and her husband were both major participants in the Black Panther Party that was based in New York.
